Me at 14 (1976)

14 year old me was a typical angst driven, insecure teenager. But I was already a huge Bowie fan, and wanted to dress like him. While the other girls all around me were wearing their Jordache and Gloria Vanderbilt jeans and printed polyester shirts (hello mid 70’s) I was fumbling about in khakis, crappy elastic suspenders, a man’s shirt that was 5 sixes too large for me, and Mary Jane flats. Plus I had my deep bright red hennaed hair (left it in for about 8 hours). I thought I was cool. Until I stepped out the door and went to school.

How did I not know I was Queer?
